The Mentoring for Achievement Programme, developed by Dr. Brenna Bry, USA, is a school-based early-intervention programme with a theoretical basis in both behavioural and cognitive psychology, designed to be delivered in both individual and small group support formats. The programme aims to support students identified by school personnel as being at risk of academic failure and early school-leaving.

MAP is designed to assist children making the difficult transition from Primary to Secondary level education. Children will be assigned their mentor in 6th Class and the work will continue with the targeted child until the child completes his/her 1st full year in Secondary School.

Working with the assigned students each mentor will provide:

  • peer and social skills development strategies
  • behavioural-based incentives
  • achievement recognition processes
  • rule-compliance structures.

When applied in a structured and consistent manner these strategies lead to enhanced academic and behavioural outcomes for the targeted children.
