The Incredible Years

Parent Training Programmes

There are two versions of the BASIC Parent Training Programme - an Early Childhood version (Ages 3-6) and a School Age version (Ages 6-12).  The aim of both programmes is to improve parenting skills and both programmes have similar content.  However, there are differences in emphasis between the two.

While the Early Childhood version focuses on:

  • Play.
  • Praise and Rewards.
  • Effective Limit Setting and dealing with Non-compliance.
  • Handling Misbehaviour.
  • Time Out and
  • Preventive Approaches.

The School Age version gives greater emphasis to strategies for older children:

  • Promoting Positive Behaviours & Reducing Inappropriate Behaviours.

The Preschool BASIC Parent training curriculum is delivered over 14-20 weeks with one 2 hour session per week, while the School Age BASIC Parent training curriculum is delivered over 10-14 weeks with one 2 hour session per week

Welcome to Archways

Archways is a national organisation working in collaboration with local and national agencies to promote and research evidence based programmes for children & young people. Archways provides a bridge between evidence based programmes and communities and supports the development of sustainable linked practices that build on existing strengths and resources. Archways was established in 2006. Initially the role of Archways was to promote the roll-out and evaluation of the Incredible Years programme in Ireland. Over the last number of years Archways have begun delivering and supporting other evidence based interventions including the Mentoring for Achievement Programme and Families First.
